CRC Restores Medical Practice Building Damaged by Tornado

A pair of tornadoes tore through western Arkansas in late spring, leaving a trail of destruction in their wake. Among the affected areas was Van Buren, where a longstanding medical practice housed in a 70-year-old building bore the brunt of the natural disaster. The tornadoes unleashed powerful winds that uprooted trees, toppled power lines, and wreaked havoc on buildings. The medical practice’s brick building suffered extensive damage, with the tornado tearing down the southwest wall and roof. The ferocity of the storm, an EF-1 with maximum winds between 100-110 mph, coupled with subsequent water damage and the building's outdated compliance standards, presented a daunting challenge for the medical practice owners.

Challenges and objectives

The reconstruction project presented numerous challenges, including supply chain disruptions, limited local contractor options, and the need to comply with stringent code and ordinance laws. Complicating matters further was preserving the building's historical essence while integrating modern upgrades, especially considering it was not a conventional doctor's office but rather a converted old mansion. Amidst these complexities, the primary objectives were to restore the building to its pre-tornado state, ensure compliance with current code and safety standards, and minimize disruption to the practice’s operations.

how crc responded

Results

The meticulous restoration work preserved the building's historic charm while incorporating modern elements to enhance functionality. By prioritizing client communication and collaboration, CRC exceeded expectations, earning praise from both the practice owners and the insurance company.

The project's success was evident not only in the restored building but also in the positive impact on the community.
