Industrial Manufacturer Turns to CRC for Fast Fire Damage Restoration

A devastating fire broke out at a large manufacturing plant, significantly disrupting operations. The fire originated in processing equipment and quickly spread, causing extensive damage to critical electrical infrastructure, including the facility’s substation and switchgear. Due to the swift response of local emergency crews, all on-site personnel were safely evacuated. However, the plant sustained substantial water and smoke damage, necessitating a comprehensive restoration effort to resume operations.

CHALLENGES AND OBJECTIVES

The primary objective was to restore the facility to full operational capacity as quickly as possible. Extensive electrical damage required urgent attention, including $3 million in repairs and temporary power solutions. In addition, machinery was coated in melted rubber, broken windows exposed the interior to the elements, and widespread water damage from suppressing the fire further complicated the cleanup process. The extreme summer heat and poor air quality posed additional challenges, requiring meticulous planning to safeguard workers and accelerate the recovery efforts.

HOW CRC RESPONDED

Because of proactive planning by the client’s risk manager, CRC was already a trusted partner, allowing for an immediate response. Within three hours of the fire, CRC mobilized a team to the site, with additional personnel arriving overnight and the following morning to accelerate recovery efforts. To maximize efficiency and safety, crews worked structured nine-hour shifts, focusing on early morning and late evening hours to avoid peak heat. Industrial air purifiers were deployed, and an intricate scaffolding network was constructed to access and clean machinery.
As part of the rebuilding process, the roof hatch was redesigned and replaced with a fireproof steel structure, allowing for safer and more efficient machinery replacements in the future. CRC also managed the removal of small asbestos components, ensuring strict compliance with all safety protocols.

Results

Through swift action and a coordinated approach, CRC minimized downtime and financial impact, enabling the client to resume critical operations far sooner than expected. Key production lines were restored within weeks, and full operational capacity was achieved in just six months—a remarkable recovery given the extent of the damage. The foresight and leadership of the client’s risk manager were instrumental in executing an efficient restoration plan, reinforcing the importance of strategic partnerships in disaster preparedness and response.

"CRC is truly best in class. No matter the size of the issue, they are a great team to have on your side in an emergency. When we placed a cold call the day of the fire, they had equipment and personnel mobilized within four hours. Their technology, including 3D scanning, provided us with an interactive and highly useful view of the building.
