CRC Replaces Hail-Damaged Roof While Manufacturing Continues

In early spring, a severe hailstorm swept across the St. Louis metropolitan area, striking a manufacturing facility in O’Fallon, Missouri. The facility, which specializes in trenchless technology and tunneling solutions for municipal and industrial pipelines, sits beneath a 100,000-square-foot standing seam metal roof and metal-clad siding.

As the storm passed, three- to four-inch hailstones pounded the roof and siding, leaving a patchwork of dents and damaged panels. Though the interior remained dry, the exterior showed clear signs of the storm’s force, signaling the need for careful roof and siding repairs to restore the building’s protective envelope.

CHALLENGES AND OBJECTIVES

The project presented several significant challenges. The facility remained fully operational, and manufacturing processes could not be paused, creating tight constraints on when and where work could occur. Access to portions of the roof and siding was limited by heavy machinery and production equipment, complicating material staging and crew movement.

Additionally, the metal-clad siding had sustained hail damage and required replacement alongside the roof. Weather conditions in early spring remained unpredictable, meaning crews needed to plan for potential interruptions.

The client’s objectives were clear: complete the roof and siding repairs promptly, maintain safety on an active production site, and minimize any disruption to essential operations. Reliability and attention to safety were especially important, as previous contractor issues had left lingering concerns.

HOW CRC RESPONDED

CRC developed a phased plan for roof and siding replacement that allowed manufacturing operations to continue without interruption. Crews removed and replaced sections of the standing seam metal roof in carefully scheduled stages, ensuring the building remained protected from weather at all times. Damaged metal siding was removed and replaced, and wall capping and coving metal were installed to fully restore the exterior envelope.

Strict safety protocols were followed throughout the project, reflecting CRC’s strong EMR rating and long-standing commitment to safe work practices. Crews monitored weather conditions and adjusted daily plans as needed to maintain steady progress while keeping interior areas and equipment protected.

Through careful sequencing and attention to safety, the project progressed efficiently, allowing the facility to remain productive throughout the roof and siding repairs.

Results

Leveraging their storm damage and commercial roofing expertise, CRC replaced the 100,000-square-foot standing seam metal roof, installed new siding, and completed all wall capping and coving in under two months. The project proceeded in carefully planned phases, allowing the client to continue full manufacturing operations throughout. All work was completed safely, with no incidents.
